BRIDGING PROGRAMME RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.0    Identification

1.1.    These rules shall be known as Bridging Programme Rules and Regulations. This shall be read together with Student Academic Performance Evaluation Rules (SAPER), Schedule I (Administrative Order on the Conduct of Examination) and Schedule II (Standing Order against Cheating in Examination).
1.2.         A bridging student shall considered as a Pre-Sessional student if has level of English is four (4) or below. This student shall be subjected to the Pre-Sessional academic policy.
1.3.    A bridging student who was placed in level five (5) or above in the English Placement Test or its equivalent shall be subjected to the Bridging academic policy.
2.0    Application
These rules and regulations shall apply to all bridging students.
3.0    Date of Implementation
These rules and regulations shall come into upon approval of the University Senate.
4.0    Definition
4.1    Bridging Programme refers to a programme conducted by
        the University for students with certificates that are not
        equivalent to ‘A’ level but higher than O Level.
5.0    Certificates for Bridging Programme
5.1    Qualified students with certificates from the following countries will be required to follow the bridging programme.

6.0    Language Proficiency Test Requirements
6.1    All Direct Intake students are to be given language proficiency tests in English and Arabic
6.2        English Proficiency Test (EPT)”refers to the test administered by the Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development (CELPAD) of the university to determine the English proficiency of a student.
6.3        “Arabic Placement Test (APT)” refers to the test administered by the Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development (CELPAD) of the university to determine the Arabic proficiency of a student.
7.0    Short semester for Bridging Programme
7.1    Students who receive financial assistance from the university are required to register in the short semester.
7.2        Students who receive financial assistance from the university must apply for leave of absence from CELPAD if they opt not to register in the short semester.
8.0    Change of Kulliyyah Intended Programme
8.1    Students who meet the minimum requirements of the intended programme are allowed to apply for:
8.1.1          Change of offer :
i.  Before enrollment OR
ii. Within a week after enrollment
8.1.2          Change of Bridging Programme (after first sem/ block 2[medical and dental student]).
8.2        Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement of the intended bridging programme may apply for change of programme after completing one semester of bridging courses provided they fulfill the CGPA requirement of the kulliyyah concerned and upon completing level 4 of the English courses (Refer to Table 2).

8.3    Applicants who fulfill the stipulated conditions will be placed on the provisional status in which they are required to do both the intended courses and the courses of the current programme.
8.4    In the event that the students take the bridging courses of the intended programme and then achieve the required CGPA, they are exempted from completing their current/original programme.
8.5    Only students who fulfilled the minimum CGPA requirement for enrollment into the respective kulliyyah will be accepted into the new programme (Refer to Table 3).
8.6    The minimum CGPA requirement is calculated based on their performance in English proficiency courses and the bridging courses of the intended programme.
8.7    Students are allowed a change of programme once.
8.8    Membership of Change of Programme Committee
Chairman: Dean ANR
Members: Deputy Dean Academic Affairs (current & intended programmes)
9.0    Qualifying Test (QT)
9.1      Upon completing Level 4 of English proficiency course, students may attempt the QT for each course under the intended bridging programme except Graphic Communication and Introduction to Built Environment.
9.2        Students shall be exempted from the corresponding bridging courses if they achieve a grade point that is not lower than the entry requirements of the respective kulliyyah (Refer table 3).

9.3        There will be one QT in a semester.
